Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves today congratulated the West Indies Under-19, women and senior men’s teams for coming off victorious in their respective World T20 Championships.

The men’s team defeated England in the finals by four wickets, with two balls remaining; scoring four consecutive sixes in the first four balls of the final over, to secure the seemingly improbable win on Sunday. Earlier, the women’s team defeated three-time defending champions Australia to secure their first ever World T20 title.

In February the under 19’s won their maiden World Cup title after defeating India in Bangladesh.

Speaking in Parliament this morning Prime Minister Gonsalves described the victories as an absolutely remarkable achievement for our civilization.

The Prime Minister said he spoke earlier today with Prime Minister Keith Mitchell of Grenada who is Chairman of the CARICOM Subcommittee on Cricket Governance, and added that two Windies players had also contacted him.

Dr. Gonsalves said he hopes CARICOM can do something special for the cricketers.
