The Traffic Department of the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police force is urging road users to be cautious as schools across the nation reopen today.

Sergeant 444 Kenny Jones during WEFM’s Traffic Talk program advised drivers to be especially cautious during the opening and closing hours of school.

“When school is opening in the morning or closing in the afternoon, the area around the school is very busy and crowded, there will be many children using the crosswalk; car drivers and other motorists must stop to allow people on the crosswalk to cross the street. Watch for children crossing in the street especially if there are no sidewalks in the neighbourhood,” he said.

Sergeant 444 Jones also made an appeal to pedestrians to be careful when travelling on the streets of SVG, advising them to communicate properly with drivers.

“We also encourage our pedestrians and students to look carefully to the left, to the right, and to the left again if and when they have to cross the street. Make sure you make eye contact with the driver and wait for the driver to signal you before you cross,” he said.
