Officers of the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police force have been admonished to display a greater level of empathy to victims of alleged cases of sexual assault and to be confidential with regard to information garnered from statements given in relation to such cases.

This admonition comes from Commissioner of Police, Colin John, in his remarks last Friday at a closing ceremony of a Non-Commissioned Officers (NCO) training course attended by over 20 police officers.

Commissioner John said that when a person goes to a Police Station to report a matter of a sexual nature, such statements must be taken privately.

The Commissioner of Police told the officers that they must also exhibit a high level of confidentiality.

He said Police business should be kept in confidence.
