Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Ralph Gonsalves during his usual appearance on NBC radio’s Face to Face program, provided an update on the number of evacuees still shelters, explaining how COVID-19 had even hampered the process of evacuees leaving at two shelters.

“As of Monday 27th there were 188 persons in all the shelters, in the 11 shelters. The number of schools being used as shelters had come down to 6, and 1 community center and 1 learning resource centre; but the actual number of persons in schools, as of the 27th, as of Monday, the number had come down to 88, and by yesterday evening, the North Union Secondary School should have been- they should have moved the persons out from there, there were 23 persons out there; a few were supposed to go the learning resource centre nearby and the rest were to go to other accommodations. By yesterday we should have had just 65 persons in shelters”. Gonsalves said.

The Prime Minister then went on to explain how COVID-19 had an effect on evacuees leaving the shelters.

“There were two places which could have been evacuated but we had a challenge at Biabou Methodist and also Kingstown Government, because there were a couple positive cases at those two shelters, so naturally you had to isolate and do testing”. The Prime Minister said.
