A pilot program is on the way that will allow recipients of public assistance to collect their funds through ATMs. This was disclosed by the Minister of National Mobilization the Hon. Orando Brewster while appearing as a guest on the Shake Up program on Thursday.

“You know, I heard the Prime Minister, yesterday, talk about the excellent database that we have built, through the ministry of National Mobilization that can identify not only the displaced but, the poor, the vulnerable. As a matter of fact we are about to start a pilot program using the bank of SVG, a collaboration through the ministry and the bank of SVG.” He said.

Minister Brewster made mention of the long lines that often occur when persons come to collect their public assistance funds, while also noting that we are “moving into a new era”, and highlighting the current COVID-19 pandemic.

This new pilot program will allow for those collecting public assistance funds from any of the bank of St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ ATMs.

“So we are running a pilot program now, to see how we can provide the assistance; instead of them going to line up all day, they can use the ATM, which is an ease of access.” Brewster said.
