The overwhelming majority of frontline workers in St. Vincent and the Grenadines have been vaccinated against COVID-19, according to Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Ralph Gonsalves during a call to Shake Up program on WEFM earlier today.

“The overwhelming majority of persons, who are required to take the vaccine, have in fact, taken the vaccine, and I’m quite sure that when all of the checks are done by Monday morning more persons would have taken it”. He said.

The Prime Minister then went on to disclose the vaccination numbers of the various sectors.

“In relation to the police, as of this morning, 1004 police officers have taken the vaccine, that’s about 85/86 percent; the nurses in the hospital services, as of yesterday, 82 percent. In the community nursing services, that’s in the clinics and polyclinics and the like, 88 percent. AIA, yesterday evening by 5, 89 percent;  on Monday earlier this week was 77.5 percent and I expect that all now so that it will be in 80s. The Port Authority yesterday evening, was 77 percent and I suspect that its much higher than that by now. The prisons on the 15th—I haven’t gotten the numbers since then—was 85 percent, and I expect that would have gone up. Customs, as of yesterday was 73 percent.” He said.

The Prime Minister then addressed vaccination numbers in the education sector, first addressing the primary and secondary schools which stand at 61 percent and 63 percent respectively.

He then goes on to talk about the vaccination numbers at the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College.

“At the Community College, at the various divisions; the division of nursing education, 100 percent of the staff there are vaccinated; in respect of the students; because you know the nursing students have to get vaccinated too, because it is established by the hospital that in order to do your practical you have to be vaccinated, so 85 percent of those students are vaccinated. The Division of Teacher’s Education, 81 percent, but 89 percent of the full time staff are vaccinated. The Division of Arts, Sciences and General Studies, 70 percent of the teachers there are vaccinated. Division of Technical and Vocational Education, 56 percent of them, but 65 percent of the full time teachers are vaccinated but only 38 percent of the part time staff, so they have to deal with that issue; and the administrative staff at the community college is at 78 percent vaccination.” The Prime Minister said.
