Over 350 military, police and civilian personnel from several Caribbean islands, as well as the United States, Canada, France, Mexico, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom are expected to gather in St. Vincent and the Grenadines next year for phase two of the Tradewinds Exercise 2019.

This annual military exercise directed and sponsored by the United States Southern Command will be held from June 14-19, 2019.

Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves in his remarks this morning at an opening exercise for Tradewinds 2019 said it will focus on maritime security, humanitarian assistance, disaster relief and field training.

Dr. Gonsalves said a lot of preparation has been ongoing for the hosting of the Tradewinds Exercise 2019.

In her remarks, US Ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean Linda Taglialatela thanked Prime Minister Gonsalves and the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines for hosting Tradewinds 2019.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Frankie Joseph, pointed out that the 2019 Tradewinds Exercise is not about marijuana eradication in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
