Dean of the Division of Nursing Education, Beverly Liverpool has said that the Covid-19 pandemic is a stark reminder of the vital role that nurses play within the health care system in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and the true value of frontline workers such as nurses.

Liverpool made the comment as the Division of Nursing Education, St. Vincent and the Grenadines SVG Community College – joined with the rest of the world yesterday, in observing international nurse’s day and on the 200th anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale.

She said more than ever, the Division celebrates the part that nurses have played and will continue to play, in our lives, as St. Vincent and the Grenadines and other countries around the world continue to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic crisis and its tragic consequences.

The dean commended all nurses for their extraordinary work in saving lives and for their bravery on the frontline of the fight against the corona virus pandemic, noting that nurses give to the Vincentian society is an indispensable contribution.

International Nurses Day 2020 was celebrated on the theme “Nurses a voice to lead, Nursing a world to health”.

Special mention must be made of the Lecturers and Clinical Instructors at the Division of Nursing Education, who are responsible for the effective training of all categories of nursing personnel to meet the needs and demands of the ever- changing health service systems locally, regionally and internationally.
