Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Sustainable Development and Culture Carlos James says that it is his hope that VincyMas 2022 will not only be the hottest carnival in the Caribbean but also the safest.

During a call to the Shake Up program last week, Minister James emphasized the importance of striking a balance in the midst of a pandemic.

“We’re hoping that it’s not just as the slogan says “the hottest carnival in the caribbean” but also the safest carnival in the Caribbean. We want to see how we can really pull that off this year”. He said.

Minister James said that a lot of people have been questioning the decision for authorities to give the go ahead for VincyMas 2022 during a pandemic.

“A lot of people would say “well, you know, it’s a pandemic. Why take this route?” We’re looking at what is taking place globally. A lot of countries are relaxing their restrictions surrounding health protocols, some have even gone to start considering the pandemic as an endemic.

Of course in the Caribbean, we also have a number of challenges, where our vaccinate rates are not at the level of those countries and one of the important things which we have to do is try to balance life and living and the economic side” he said.

Minister James highlighted the fact that a number of persons in the creative industry had not been able to earn a significant income in the last two years; saying that great consideration must be given to those whose livelihoods have been negatively affected by the absence of carnival.
