The company that will establish quarry operations in the Richmond area on almost 59 acres of government land, will pay $12,000 per year for the next three decades.

Minister of Urban Development, Energy, Airports, Seaports, Grenadines Affairs and Local Government, Senator Julian Francis during a call to the Issue at Hand program took the time to discuss this following the buzz generated around the payment.

“There’s a lot of discussion on the lease amount. The lease is $12,000 per year, and there is a throughput fee at $2 per ton. For every ton of stone that is converted into aggregate; there will be a mechanism to measure that, the government gets $2.” He said.

According to Minister Francis 25 to 30 persons will be employed in the initial stages. The Minister says that number is expected to rise to 250 when operations are in “full swing”.
