The Hon. Saboto Caesar Minister of Agriculture, while speaking on radio recently stressed the importance of training for those involved in the fisheries industry, as it moves from artisanal level to one that is professional.

“It is noted in the budget for 2022 that sums will be expended for training of persons, because when you are moving an industry from an artisanal level to one that is commercial, we have to lift our game. We have to be very professional; we have to ensure that we meet international standards, and these standards are set both by health authorities, but also there will be some niche standards, requirements and prerequisites which will be set by each importer. So there is a significant need for the transfer of knowledge.” He said.

Minister Caesar made mention of Rainforest Seafoods, which intends to hire 70 persons, acknowledging the positive impact they will have on the fisheries sector.
