The Hon. Saboto Caesar Minister of Agriculture says that while policymakers can speak about reducing the food import bill, actually making it happen is dependent on consumers holding up their end of the bargain by purchasing local products.

“We now have a flood of local vegetables on the market, and I want to take this opportunity to ask the consumers in St. Vincent and the Grenadines when they go to the supermarket, to make sure that they support the local farmers.

We can speak about reducing the food import bill as policymakers but we depend on you, the citizens, as the purchasers, when you got to the supermarket to keep your end of the bargain, which is to buy locally produced goods so that we can have that money circulating in the local economy.” Caesar said.

The Agriculture Minister during his call commended SVG’s farmers for the effort they’ve put in to ensure that there is a variety of local products available in the nation’s supermarkets; telling listeners to expect the buy local campaign ramp up in the future.
