The Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment in its commitment to implement the National Biosafety Framework is establishing a Biosafety policy and the supportive legislation.

In continuing the process of framing the National Biosafety Policy and Bill, Dr. Marlene Keese, a Legal Consultant, of the International Centre of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology will assess the status of St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ Biosafety legislative framework.

Dr. Keese will be in the State on September 7th and will meet with key stakeholders.

The St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ draft policy points, among others, to the Government’s obligations to apply Biosafety measures to make certain that modern biotechnology does not have an adverse effect on conservation, the sustainable use of biological diversity, human and animal health and socio-economic development of the State.
