Vincentians have been asked to conserve water as low rainfall has negatively affected the island’s water supply.

The Central Water and Sewerage Authority (CWSA) says the continued dry period characterised by low to nil rainfall experienced over the past three weeks at all of its major water catchments has resulted in less than 50 per cent of its normal river flow volumes.

As a result, storage reservoirs have now been depleted to levels that now warrant periodic interruptions in the supply to key areas aimed at ensuring that every area is supplied with water for the majority of the daytime hours.

During this period and until the rain returns, the CWSA says it will inform the public of its valve closing schedules and planned periods of outages for the respective areas.

The Authority has urged Vincentians to observe strict water conservation measures and assist the CWSA by reporting leaks and limiting water use to only essential activities during this period.
