According to Volcanologist Dr. Thomas Christopher, we can safely say that La Soufriere’s episode of explosive activity is now behind us.

“In terms of that episode of explosive activity, we can definitely say that is behind us.” He said.

Dr. Christopher said that there are a number of options regarding what the volcano’s next course of action may be.

“I think right now there are a number of options as to what this volcano may or may not be doing. I think one option and the most welcome one, would be that the eruption has stopped and it’s dying away.”

Dr. Christopher went on to discuss the other possible option, which he says is not very likely to happen.

“Another option would be that it’s a break between pulses. However I think that is fairly unlikely based on how I’ve learned how this volcano behaves.” Christopher said.

The Volcanologist said that it is his hope that the first option takes place.

The volcanic alert level is currently at orange and persons living in the orange zones, except for residents of Fitz Hughes and Chateaubelair have been given the all clear to go home. The red zone however, remains off limits.
