Grant Thornton, an international firm of chartered accountants has donated a total of EC$ 145,000 among three local organizations involved in the volcanic relief effort.

Floyd Patterson, resident partner of Grant Thornton, on Friday handed over EC$100,000 to NEMO, EC$ 35,000 to the Red Cross and EC$ 15,000 to the Smt. Mary’s Roman Catholic School emergency shelter.

Mr. Patterson at the handing over ceremony said that it is Grant Thornton’s hope that fifteen to twenty percent of the money donated to NEMO will go towards medical needs, obtaining medication for persons who are suffering from chronic illnesses.

The money was raised directly from the Grant Thornton partners in the Eastern Caribbean, with contributions being made from The Grant Thornton International (GTI) head office as well.

Michelle Forbes, director of NEMO, said the donation will allow them to further support persons that have been displaced by the natural disaster.
