The formal opening of the Port Modernization project is set to take place this Friday July 1st 2022.

Minister of Urban Development, Energy, Airports, Seaports, Grenadines Affairs and Local Government Julian Francis, while speaking on the Issue At Hand program, disclosed this while also discussing how the opening of the project is going to affect the traffic plan in that area.

“The formal opening of the project is going to be this Friday, July 1st, and is going to be held foreshore behind the input warehouse. Shortly after that, immediately after Carnival that area is going to be completely closed off. So the contractor, Aecon, is taking possession of the property and the work site” Francis said.

Minister Francis said that there is a traffic plan in place for when the closing off of this area takes place. He said this traffic plan was presented by the contractor and reviewed by the traffic department.

He reiterated that road users will no longer have access to the foreshore road after Carnival, assuring that alternative traffic arrangements will be made between the July 1st and 7th.

Minister Francis also gave the assurance that operation of the bus terminals will not be impeded by the project.
