On Saturday July 2nd Delroy “Fireman” Hooper was crowned both Ragga Soca and Soca Monarch, which saw patrons at the event over the moon with excitement.

WEFM’s Kheron Sutherland caught up with dual monarch at the Pan Kai Mas even on Sunday night, where he spoke “Social Media Police” and “Bad Demon “ artiste about everything from his feelings on his double victory to his love and involvement with VincyMas overall.

On his victory on Saturday Hooper said that it was hard fought and did not come without its own challenges.

“Well, oh boy, this feeling is always great. There’s been so many trials and tribulations and what we want to get through and so. Pulling it off? It’s always great” he said.

When asked about preparation for this year’s Soca Monarch competition, Hooper said it has been one of toughest he has had to deal with yet, due to short amount of time there was to prepare, but said the results were still favourable despite the challenge.

“So it worked out well but it was one of the toughest one over all the years” he said.

The Ragga Soca Monarch said his presentation his hit “Social Media Police was simple due to the fact that he was aware of what the judges were looking for that night.

“It was quite simple, normally I know what the judges are looking for. Competition is different than just ordinary performances, so then when it gets into that, you know, you getting into judging time, so you have to hit on all the points that the judges really want and make it as simple as possible. So that’s what I did” he said.

And on his “Bad Demon” performance’s crowd response and his feelings on it.

“Power Soca, that’s my food. I eat it up very fast. The riddim was already speaking for itself, the song was already speaking for itself during the other shows leading up to Carnival. So it was just for me to come into the stadium last night and deliver, like I said, because it is competition time, when it’s not a competition show you can do and say what you feel like. On the night of judging then you know you have to meet all the criteria, based on my experience that’s what I do best” the Soca Monarch said.

When asked about his take on the Carnival season this year Fireman said while it was really good, he would have loved for it to be longer.

“It was really, really good, really short, I wish Carnival had another week or two inside it, well you know you have to make some money.”

Double crowned Hooper emphasized his love for VincyMas, highlighting that he is not just involved in competition but he gets involved in every aspect of VincyMas that he can.

“When it comes to VincyMas, I’m not just here as a competitor, I’m here to do VincyMas, so I participate in everything. You notice tonight is Calypso night and I’m still here; if it’s Mas I go to the Mas tents because me and the Mas people are good friends and me and the pan men are good friends, I have to go jouvert tomorrow. So I am about VincyMas and not just individually as people think, in Soca Monarch. You’ll see me any place, win, lose, or draw, I’m always participating in VincyMas” Fireman Hooper said.

In closing Hooper expressed love for his fans stating clearly that it’s “fans over fame” going on to say “my fans first, I am second”.
