The Commissioner of Police Mr. Colin John has responded to two letters sent by the General Secretary of the Public Service Union, which notified him of the union’s intention to engage in a procession around Kingstown on September 9th, 2021 and to engage in a demonstration in front of the Kingstown Vegetable Market, Paul’s Avenue Road and White Chapel Road from September 7th to 10th, 2021.

Commissioner John in his response stated that due to section 7 and 10 of the Public Order Act, the meeting at the Kingstown Vegetable market, White Chapel Road and Paul’s Avenue Road is prohibited.

Regarding the procession, the commissioner pointed out that the Kingstown Vegetable Market; the proposed starting location for the procession is within 200 yards from a point within the curtilage of the High Court and Parliament.

In reference to the proposed route for the procession, the commissioner stated if granted permission, the route, would at some point contravene specified distance and specified time sections of the law. He instead prescribed a new route, that route being between Highway Trading, Arnos Vale and the Sion Hill intersection, on Thursday September 9th, 2021, between 10 AM and 4 PM.

Participants of the processions will only be permitted to occupy the left lane of the road heading from Arnos Vale to Sion Hill and no more than two vehicles are permitted to be a part of the procession.
