This country’s Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Simon Keizer Beache while on speaking radio discussed the measures that have been taken following the discovery of 16 laboratory confirmed cases of COVID-19 at the shelters, fourteen from two shelters and two from a private home which the COVID positive evacuees are renting.

The CMO disclosed that the total number of COVID-19 cases at shelters had gone from eleven to thirty two in three days.

Dr. Keizer Beache said that access to the affected shelters had been shut in order to prevent further spread of the virus.

According to the CMO areas of quarantine and areas of isolation have been instituted as well.

Five day cycles of COVID-19 testing has also been initiated at the shelters.

The Chief Medical Officer said that while testing and vaccination remains optional at the shelter, she strongly encourages all evacuees to get tested and vaccinated in order to safeguard themselves against COVID-19.
