During a tour of the Cannabis Testing Laboratory, CEO of the Medicinal Cannabis Authority (MCA), Dr. Jerrol Thompson spoke on the topic of licenses being distributed by the MCA. While doing so he revealed that close to 45 traditional cultivators had been issued licenses.
“We have also issued licenses to now, close to 45 traditional cultivators, that’s individual licenses and we’ve also issued licenses to about 15 local cultivators, persons who may not have had any experience with cultivation in cannabis before, of course that was illegal.”
The tour was part of the Medicinal Cannabis Authority’s (MCA) mandate to regulate the medicinal cannabis industry; in an effort to provide the public with a status update amidst the challenges of COVID-19 and those associated with developing a modern, well-regulated, export-oriented industry.
