Children as young as one month old have been affected by COVID-19 in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. This was disclosed by Hon. St. Clair Prince, this country’s Minister of Health Wellness and Environment.

“Twenty seven percent of cases are eighteen years old and younger, children as young as one month old have been affected.” He said.

Minister Prince said that people all over the world have been given the impression that COVID-19 only affects older individuals; and that while it may be true that older persons are more vulnerable; young people should also be very cautious.

He also disclosed that positive COVID-19 cases had been detected within the country’s school learning hubs, two students and one teacher so far. The Minister said that the health authorities have reason to believe that there are more cases within the hubs and currently conducting tests.

Minister Prince noted that there has been frightening decrease in the use of masks as well as an increase in the occurrence of mass gatherings in the country, as while the vaccine uptake has been poor.

As of the most recent COVID-19 report, active cases of the virus have passed the 200 mark in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
