With many taking issue with the placement of the billboard by the main opposition, the New Democratic Party (NDP), Member of Parliament for East Kingstown, Fitzgerald Bramble has come to the defense of the move by the party.

During a call to WE FM’s Issue At Hand program, argued against the belief that the billboard was erected by the party in an effort to tarnish the image of St. Vincent and the Grenadines in the eyes of visitors ahead of the hosting of ICC T20 Cricket World Cup matches.

‘The billboard that’s been erected is just another mechanism in our messaging strategy. What that billboard projects is nothing new, it’s nothing that we haven’t spoken about before. Some people feel, as P. John expressed in a comment on Facebook that that it was such a move is insensitive, stupid and reckless and nothing could be further from the truth. All that the billboard is saying is that we have a issue of crime. Here is an example of the incidence and the extremity of the crime problem in our country and we have provided information where you can find the New Democratic Party’s plan for addressing the issue of crime. This has nothing to do–the billboard has nothing to do with targeting tourists, and making our country look bad and all that sort of stuff.’ Mr. Bramble said.

Mr. Bramble said the placement of the billboard in the area of Gibson corner is part of the New Democratic Party’s varying of their messaging strategy. He said that a decision was taken by the party to place billboards at different parts of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, targeting various issues affecting the country.
