215 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported here in ST. Vincent and the Grenadines.

According to the NEMO’s Health Services Subcommittee, of newly confirmed 215 cases; 91 were reported from samples collected on January 6th, 61 were reported from samples collected on January 7th, 48 from samples collected on January 8th and 15 reported from samples collected on January 10th. There were no new cases reported on January 9th.

36 recoveries were also reported, now leaving active cases of the virus 914.

SVG 85th COVID-19 death was also confirmed in the Health Services Subcommittee’s report. The deceased is a fully vaccinated 68 year old female who died on January 10th after a respiratory illness with features typical of COVID-19. A post-mortem test for COVID-19 was positive confirming that the cause of death was COVID-19 pneumonia.

Sequencing results received from CARPHA on January 10, 2022 and January 11, 2022, confirmed the presence of the Omicron variant of concern in two samples taken on December 27th, 2021 and one sample taken on December 28th, 2021 from persons with no travel history.

There are currently no patients admitted for COVID-19 at the Argyle Isolation Facility. Seventeen patients are admitted to the COVID-19 ward at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital, six of whom are vaccinated, eleven patients are unvaccinated.
