215 new cases of COVID-19 and one new death reported in SVG

215 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported here in ST. Vincent and the Grenadines.

According to the NEMO’s Health Services Subcommittee, of newly confirmed 215 cases; 91 were reported from samples collected on January 6^th, 61 were reported from samples collected on January 7^th, 48 from samples collected on January 8^th and 15 reported from samples collected on January 10^th. There were no new cases reported on January 9^th.

36 recoveries were also reported, now leaving active cases of the virus 914.

SVG 85^th COVID-19 death was also confirmed in the Health Services Subcommittee’s report. The deceased is a fully vaccinated 68 year old female who died on January 10^th after a respiratory illness with features typical of COVID-19. A post-mortem test for COVID-19 was positive confirming that the cause of death was COVID-19 pneumonia.

Sequencing results received from CARPHA on January 10, 2022 and January 11, 2022, confirmed the presence of the Omicron variant of concern in two samples taken on December 27^th, 2021 and one sample taken on December 28^th, 2021 from persons with no travel history.

There are currently no patients admitted for COVID-19 at the Argyle Isolation Facility. Seventeen patients are admitted to the COVID-19 ward at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital, six of whom are vaccinated, eleven patients are unvaccinated.
