The Government’s 2022 budget for wages and salaries is two percent higher than 2021’s. This is according to Minister Finance the Hon. Camillo Gonsalves during the laying of the budget estimates earlier this week, where the Minister also explained the increase.

“The budget in 2022 for wages and salaries is two percent higher than the amount estimated for the wage bill in 2021. The main reason for this increase is increments and the additional allowances that will go with a number of the new positions—of the 144 new positions that we have placed in this budget. So the wage bill will go up about two percent, but largely, it’s because of people moving up an increment within their own salary scale.” He said.

Minister Gonsalves while speaking on the Issues at Hand program this past Sunday said that the 2022 budget is expected to be approximately 9.5 percent bigger than the 2021’s budget.
