World Pediatric Project (WPP) continues to collaborate with the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment to enhance the quality of care given to assist the children and families of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The current focus is the Speech and Language Therapy Mission, ongoing at the Helping Hand Center in New Montrose. The mission commenced on May 14th and ran through to the 18th.

Dr. Miriam Kerr, the mission leader and her team were supported by our very own pediatric neurologist Dr. Mishka Duncan-Adams.

This team concerns itself with problems of vocal challenges, speech delays, articulation, behavioral and adjustment issues.

It also addresses cleft lip and palate concerns including follow-up therapy, as well as children with speech delays or non-verbal communication attributable to autism.

“It is enlightening to see that close to one hundred children have been seen at this mission and given the support they need. An important role in helping our families access the care that is needed for their children, especially as a community, is to advocate strongly against the stigma and discrimination towards our children who may have disabilities or health conditions beyond their control.” An official release from WPP stated.

The WPP is encouraging SVG’s parents, whose children may need that special support, to reach out to them or to Dr. Mishka Duncan-Adams at the Milton Cato Hospital to get on to the program.
