A young woman, who was recently jailed for a gun related offence, has been released from prison following a decision made by the Mercy Committee, which is chaired by Prime Minister, Dr Ralph Gonsalves.
The Prime Minister during a call to the Issues at Hand program on Sunday commented on the release of the woman, where made clear that this decision made by the mercy committee was not intended to cause any inconsistencies.
“The decision of the committee of mercy was a decision not at all to provide any inconsistency between the prevalence of guns and the decision “show mercy” to this particular young lady. The committee of mercy found in this particular circumstance, on the facts before them that it was an appropriate case to exercise mercy and to impose the conditions of the release of that particular young lady” he said.
