The Health Services Subcommittee will not be accepting new requests to exceed the country’s mass gathering recommendations. This is according to Health Promotion Officer, Ms. Shanika John.
“At this time the Health Services Subcommittee in the Ministry of Health, we are not accepting any new requests for applications to exceed the capacity within the mass gathering. So any fully vaccinated party, event, wedding, funeral, camps, etc; anything like that, we are not accepting” Miss John said.
The Health Promotions Officer instead said that the Ministry advises persons to stay within the prescribed number of persons for gatherings, which is 10 for inside gatherings and 20 for outdoor gatherings.
John made clear that this decision being made had nothing to do with previous events being super spreader events.
“This has nothing to do with any of the activities being a super spreader or anyone testing positive from those activities this is just us from the ministry simply diverting our resources and energy elsewhere, where we think it is more needed at this time”. She said.
