An increase in insurance fees in Barbados has come into question by the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW).
The union says that it does not support the move by Barbados’ General Insurance Association to increase premiums, especially for persons with spotless records.
President of the NUPW Kimberly Agard said the news has not been an easy pill to swallow for Barbadians.
The union’s president’s statements come after a recent interjection by the Barbados Central Bank to prevent added rates by banks for mobile and online transactions.
According to Loop News Miss Agard believes this jump in fees could cause an exodus of clients who need but can no longer afford insurance.
She made the case that especially now, at this challenging time economically, more consideration must be given to this decision and its implementation.
