Dr. Ralph Gonsalves

Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves during a call to the Issues at Hand program discussed the compensation of 35 Rose Place fishermen, who are being moved in order to facilitate the Port Modernization project.

Prime Minister Gonsalves noted that sixteen of the thirty-five fishermen had already signed agreements with the Government and two have already received payment.

“Now, what is being given, you get a small amount of money, $400 allowance to move. $2,400 for crew allowance, you get a shed allowance depending on how much the shed is worth and you get $13,000 for vessel improvement. You know, some of the boats are not even working, but we are giving $13,000 so they can improve their vessel. The minimum anybody will get is $18,000” Gonsalves said.

The Prime Minister during his call assured the Rose Place Fishermen that just as those with structures on the beach were compensated, they will be taken care of as well.
