The Royal Grenada Police Force says a fire occurred at a newly constructed section of the Coast Guard Base at True Blue, St George.

Extensive damage was done to a portion of the structure and its contents were engulfed in the blaze.

The Officer on Charge of Grenada’s fire department Glenroy Corian explained the extent of the damage caused by the fire:

“At the initial stage of arrival the building was engulfed in fire so immediately our men started fire suppression using water from the tenders to get it under control. Yes, they have a couple beds and lockers, and other utensils that got damaged” he said.

Officer Corian at the time of the interview said that he did know if there were any members of the Coast Guard inside while the barrack was ablaze.

He also said that cause of the fire is unknown at this time and investigations are ongoing to ascertain the possible cause.
