Dr. Jerrol Thompson, this country’s leading infectious disease specialist, during a call to the Issues at Hand program on Sunday, discussed the vascular effects of COVID-19 on the body, saying that COVID affects a lot more than just the respiratory system.

“We are now seeing almost equal, or even more vascular problems from the virus, it is such a clotter, a major clotter, so we are getting emboli or clots”. He said.

Dr. Thompson noted that globally that there a lot of deaths from COVID-19 that have been related to vascular issues.

“Around the world a lot of people die, they die of a heart attack, they die of a stroke, they die of a blood clot to the lungs in addition to the respiratory problems that they are having”. Thompson said.

Dr. Thompson said that COVID-19 attacks the lining the of the blood vessels, which then leads to blood clots, causing various issues with the heart lungs, brain, kidneys, etc. He stated that 40% of people that die from COVID-19 were dying of vascular problems.
