Chief Medical Officer Dr. Simone Keizer Beache, during the Ministry of Health, Wellness and Environment’s press conference last week, warned that there will be repercussions for anyone who prescribes or dispenses Ivermectin for use against COVID-19.
Dr. Keizer Beache noted that while the drug has been approved for use against parasites in humans it has not been approved for human use against COVID-19.
“It is not approved for use for COVID; it is not approved by the Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, by the drug council, by any authority in St. Vincent. It is not approved for the use in COVID”. Keizer Beache said.
She then said that anyone who prescribes or dispenses the drugs for COVID-19 can find themselves in front of both the Pharmacy Council and the Medical Council.
“Anybody who has prescribed that for COVID or anybody who has dispensed it for COVID in St. Vincent and the Grenadines can be brought before the Pharmacy Council and the Medical Council, because it is not approved for use for COVID in St. Vincent. It is approved for other things in humans, but not for the use of COVID, whether as a prophylactic or as a treatment”. The CMO said.
