Dr. Jerrol Thompson, SVG’s leading infectious disease specialist, while speaking on WEFM’s Wake Up morning program yesterday, discussed the harsh effects of COVID-19 and pregnant women, while also debunking claims that the COVID-19 vaccine had adverse effects on pregnant women.

He first spoke in relation to the claims of adverse effects on pregnant women who have taken the vaccine.

“Significant studies have been done now that we’ve had almost fourteen months of vaccines in general and nine months since they were fully on the market, since December. Lots of kids, children have been born, lots of women have gone through pregnancies, there have been studies on hundreds of thousands of women who would have received vaccines, there has been no evidence of any problems at all, still births congenital defects or anything of that nature.” He said.

Dr. Thompson then went on to reference an article by Scientific America that pertained to the effects of COVID-19 on pregnant women.

“The virus has an impact on women in that it causes premature labour. Any time a woman has the virus during pregnancy they will have premature labour. In forty percent of cases, before week 32, a baby is supposed to take 38 to 40 weeks. So if a woman is in a remote area and there is a need for an incubator, that baby can die.” Thompson said.
