Police in Trinidad are investigating whether the shooting of a prison officer outside his San Fernando home was a hit ordered from behind prison walls.

According to the Trinidad Express, Kerwin Boswell, age 42, was shot in the hip at around 9:00 pm on Tuesday. However, the bullet did not cause serious injury and Boswell was treated at hospital and discharged.

Two weeks ago, Trinidad and Tobago’s Commissioner of Prisons, Sterling Stewart, advised his officers to remain vigilant after getting word hitmen were being offered money to kill guards.

The threats came after prison guards searched cells at the Golden Grove Prison, in Arouca, which led to a near riot at the prison and resulted in prisoners and guards sustaining injuries.
