St Eustatius has launched a joint search and rescue operation for a crew member of the fishing vessel FV Sabbath.
The crew member allegedly fell overboard on Saturday during rough seas while the vessel was travelling from Sint Maarten to Dominica. Upon experiencing technical difficulties, the vessel diverted to St Kitts.
The Statia Government in a statement said despite immediate efforts by the ship’s crew and a subsequent multi-agency rescue operation involving teams from St Eustatius (Statia), the Dutch Coast Guard, and the St Kitts-Nevis Coast Guard, the crew member has not been found.
As of the latest update, the search is still ongoing, with both maritime and aerial resources being used to locate the missing person.
