A tragic hit-and-run incident in St. Maarten that occurred early Monday morning has left one man dead.

According to police the incident took place near the Billy Folly Crossing on Welfare Road around 4:30am.

Central Dispatch received multiple calls reporting that a male pedestrian, believed to be in his late sixties, had been struck by a scooter while walking along the sidewalk near the crossing.
