60 year-old Ray Nairn, the head of the Elizabeth Estates Children’s Home in the Bahamas, has been remanded to prison on allegations of molestation and cruelty to children.
Prosecutors allege that on December 16th, Nairn indecently assaulted and had unlawful sexual intercourse with a 17-year-old girl, who resides at the facility and he also faces a second allegation of indecent assault with prosecutors alleging that the crimes occurred between January and June.
Nairn is also accused of cruelty to children, a charge stemming from allegations that he gave the girl alcoholic beverages on January 12, causing injury to her health.
He is not required to plead to the charges as he will face trial in the Supreme Court.
He was also denied bail as the magistrate lacks jurisdiction to consider bail on the unlawful sexual intercourse allegations and the matter was adjourned to March 12, 2025 for the presentation of a voluntary bill of indictment.
Nairn’s wife, sister and brother were in court to show him support, however, the magistrate asked them to leave when the charges were read.
