An infant reportedly passed away at St. Lucia’s (Owen King EU Hospital) OKEU Hospital on August 17, 2024, raising concerns about the cause of death.
Allegations suggest the infant may have swallowed popcorn seeds, leading to breathing difficulties that eventually resulted in her death after being taken to the hospital days later.
St. Lucia’s Health Minister Moses Jn Baptiste extended his condolences to the grieving family and assured them that the hospital has established procedures to investigate such incidents.
He clarified that, the hospital has its procedures and when something of that nature takes place.
The Minister said he would not comment further on the infant’s passing until the Hospital’s internal investigations are concluded.
A recent government injection into the hospital is expected to improve its health services and operations.
