Jamaicans selected for jury duty are to benefit from a 200 per cent increase in the daily stipend, according to Justice Minister Delroy Chuck.

The increase, which has been approved by Cabinet, will see the stipend moved from $2,000 to $6,000 per day.

Chuck made the announcement Tuesday during his contribution to the 2024/25 Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives.

The minister told the House that each juror whose name is called for any circuit, will be paid $2,000 for each day he/she attends. Those who are empanelled and who serve on a case will receive $6,000 per day, up from the present $2,000.

The justice minister said the necessary regulations will be brought to Parliament to support the changes.
