The head of the Caribbean Union of Teachers (CUT) is calling on the region’s governments to do more to improve the working conditions for teachers.
CUT President Dr. Garth Anderson that there is need for reform as the Caribbean education system is being hampered by the mass departure of teachers.
Noting that teachers are moving in droves to North America and Europe for greener pastures, he said that governments must provide the necessary resources that teachers need to carry out their professional duties.
CUT’s President said that the teachers must be justly paid for arguably the most difficult job of impacting the lives of the region’s people.
Barbados’ deputy chief education officer, Joy Adamson who was also in attendance, acknowledged the importance of collaboration and involving teachers in national efforts to transform the educational system.
