Following rumours of a breakdown in ongoing negotiations between Caribbean Airlines (CAL) and the Trinidad and Tobago Airline Pilots Association (TTALPA) earlier this year, the airline has formally sought the intervention of T&T’s Labour Minister.

A week ago, the parties entered negotiations on the collective agreement for pilots from the period September 1, 2015, to August 31, 2018.

In a statement, CAL said due to challenges with reaching an agreement with the pilots’ union for the bargaining period, it has chosen to engage the processes under the Industrial Relations Act and have the matter reported to Minister Stephen McClashie.

According to Loop News, on August 20, 2023, the Industrial Court issued an injunction against the union, preventing pilots from taking industrial action.

Over 90 pilots called in sick over a three-day period, leading to delays and cancelling of several international and domestic flights. The union denied that the action was part of a strike.
