Health Promotion Officer at the Ministry of Health Shanika John, while appearing as a guest on VC3’s Roundtable Talk discussed the steps that the Ministry of Health is taking to combat the current rise in Dengue Fever cases in SVG.

“So far what we have been doing, specifically, the Vector Control Unit has been doing the fogging. It has been done across St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Last week into this week, we have been focusing on schools across St. Vincent and the Grenadines as it concerns the reopening of schools.”

The Health Promotion Officer went on to highlight some of the steps that the public could take to combat the spread as well.

“A lot of the messages that we are pushing right now for the preventative aspect is that we want persons to pay attention to their immediate surroundings.

Within a community, if each individual of each household can pay attention to what is around them that can also help.”

She encouraged persons to look out for any containers or old tires that may promote the breeding of mosquitoes on their property, asking that the public tip over these containers filled with waters and to properly dispose of the containers if they are not needed.
