Subhash Prasad Gupta, currently serving as India’s Ambassador to Suriname, has been concurrently accredited as the next High Commissioner to St Vincent and the Grenadines the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Friday.
Gupta is expected to assume his new role shortly.
Gupta’s recent appointment as India’s Ambassador to Suriname came in July of this year. The MEA noted that India and Suriname enjoy a close and friendly relationship, bolstered by cultural ties and the presence of the Indian Diaspora, which dates back over 150 years.
Diplomatic relations between India and Suriname were established in 1976, with the Indian Embassy opening in Paramaribo in 1977, followed by the establishment of the Surinamese Embassy in New Delhi in 2000.
The two nations have exchanged several high-level visits, including Indian President Droupadi Murmu’s inaugural foreign visit to Suriname in 2023, following an invitation from President Santokhi.
This visit was recognized as a significant milestone in the bilateral relations between the two countries.
