Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has announced changes to the allocation of portfolio within the Cabinet.

This announcement came on Tuesday July 16th at the Argyle International Airport, where a ceremony was being held with OECS heads of Governments in attendance, in relation to post-hurricane Beryl relief efforts.

The ministers of Government that saw changes to their portfolio are Minister Keisal Peters, Minister Frederick Stephenson, Minister Orando Brewster, and the Prime Minister himself.

“We’re going to split the Ministry of National Mobilization and Social Development and the Ministry of Housing. Dr. Brewster will remain in the Ministry of Housing and the informal human settlements and he will have the portfolio attached there of youth but he’d also have sports. Senator Keisal Melissa Peters will go with renewed energy and focus at the heart and soul of the government in national mobilization and social development and all the various sub subjects in that particular ministry plus of course postal services from the Ministry of Minister Stevenson.

There are a lot of social safety net issues to be addressed because the faces of men and women are strained and anxious and people are suffering because of this terrible disaster. So she has her work cut out and we had to split those ministries so that we will give focus.” Prime Minister Gonsalves said.

According to Prime Minister Gonsalves, Minister Frederick Stephenson will now be responsible for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, including the regional integration and diaspora unit.

The Prime Minister will now be responsible for the public service portfolio.
