Professor Richard Robertson, during a press conference earlier this morning has urged all those that are still in the red zone to leave immediately, warning that the worst might not have necessarily passed as yet.

“I would suggest to you that if you are still one of those persons who are anywhere on the mountain who are saying that you’re going to wait it out and see what happens; the first one is not necessarily the worst one, the first bang is not necessarily the worst bang” Robertson said.

He called on those remaining in those highly hazardous areas to move south.

Robertson said that the monitoring team will be busy collecting more data to determine whether or not the situation at La Soufriere will worsen. He said that those who have already evacuated have escaped immediate danger and that the most that they will have worry about now at this time is ashfall.

“For the rest of the people who have already evacuated—you could probably expect some ash now and again in the southern areas, but otherwise once you’re off the mountain you should be good.” He said.

La Soufriere transitioned from an effusive eruption to an explosive eruption this morning at 8:40 AM according to the latest La Soufriere Bulletin.
