Taiwan’s Ambassador to St. Vincent and the Grenadines Fiona Fan has commended the bravery and resilience of residents of Mayreau, Canouan and Union Island in the wake of the destruction brought by Category 4 Hurricane Beryl.
Ambassador Fan was at the time visiting the islands, and was moved by the magnitude of the devastation she witnessed.
“ It is heartbreaking to see the immense hardships that the people of Union Island, Mayreau, and Canouan have faced. I commend the local residents for their bravery and resilience. As a Taiwanese ambassador to St. Vincent and the Grenadines, I am committed to standing with the people as we recover.
The Taiwanese government has demonstrated a commitment with a donation of US$200,000 for our emergency relief effort.”
Ambassador Fan said that the embassy will continue to work together with both Governments to develop a more formal approach to aid and reconstruct.
