Police officers here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines will begin their participation in an advanced training program in forensics.

The program commenced at 9 am today and will conclude on Friday July 19th.

The program is being developed in collaboration with the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Consulate in Canada and Mr. Peter Gendi, a Detective Sergeant with the Toronto Police Service.

Speaking on WE FM’s Issue At Hand program on Sunday Consul General Fitzgerald Huggins said he hopes to see an increase the number of convictions as a result of this forensic training program.

“Even if you have 20 policemen with new information, at least to understand what is a crime scene, how to protect a crime scene, how to manage a crime scene, how to, you know, particularly in the out districts, you don’t have to wait for an officer from the CID to come and do that. I’m hoping that that is going to bring a serious benefit to the way we manage crime and the way we respond to crime, and hopefully we get more convictions.” He said.

According to an official release from the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force, 40 officers are expected to be lead through the rigorous program, which is designed to equip with vital forensic skills.

Participants will delve intro crucial aspects of crime scene investigation, including: Establishing paths of contamination, Documenting crime scenes and locating, recording, collecting, and preserving evidence.
