The United Nations Caribbean is highlighting the work of Rianka Chance, an Indigenous youth leader from Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. As a member of the 2025 UN Youth Advisory Group for UN Barbados and the OECS, Rianka advocates for Indigenous rights, mental health, and education, using her platform to amplify voices from marginalized communities.
The UN says her work shows that Indigenous knowledge isn’t just part of the past—it actively shapes the present and strengthens the future. Rianka’s story is featured in the UN’s “Shared Lives, Shared Future” exhibition, celebrating 80 years of the organisation’s impact across its 193 Member States.
The Vincentian youth leader says the UN’s recognition affirms what her community has always known: Indigenous knowledge is not just history, it is survival.
