Neighbourhood Watch Groups are about more than just walking around looking for danger says Corporal Edson Smith of the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force.

He was, at the time, speaking on WE FM’s Cop Chat program, where he noted that these groups tend to make the community experience in the areas where they exist more holistic.

“What brings us together is the fact that, okay, we want to not just make this community safe, but they are responsible for putting a lot of different initiatives in place, like community cleanup initiatives, different programs. You find that a lot of the persons who sit on these neighborhood watch groups, they are very community oriented. So they put things in place to, you know, to make the community experience in the various neighborhoods, holistic ones. So it’s not just, you know, you’re walking around and you’re looking for danger, so to speak. It’s something formal now so that it could actually grow into other organizational bodies that would see the experience that each individual in the community would have a more holistic experience, so to speak.” He said.

Corporal Smith encouraged the Vincentian public to form or join neighbourhood watch groups, emphasizing the importance of community policing, noting that the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force would provide the necessary resources to the groups.
